Christy Georges Wins The USRA Modifieds Feature, Sherman Barnett Captures The 2013 Super Truck Series Championship.
The Southern New Mexico Speedway was going to crown another champion tonight as it was the season's last event for the Super Trucks. It was going to be either Walton Kyle, Sr. or Sherman Barnett. Walton had to finish two positions in front of Sherman to win the championship. And if that wasn't enough, the CSR Garage Hornets, USRA Street Stocks and the USRA Dirt Modifieds were also in the house.
Winners from Sat. Sept 7th... David Melton (Glen's Dash), Christy Georges (USRA Modifieds), Brandon Cruse (USRA Street Stocks), Matt Higby (Super Trucks), Benny Pena (Hornets), and 2013 Super Trucks Champion Sherman Barnett.
The Super Trucks took the track for the final 2013 season race. In the early stages of the race, Matt Higby and Kenny Alons battled for the lead, after John Delph's transmission broke down. Kenny flew off the track, moving Donnie Newcomb to 2nd, Sherman and Walton were following. Walton was in front of Sherman for a while but Barnett found a fast line at the bottom of the speedway and passed him as if he was parked. Matt Higby, who was totally in control up front, won the main and Sherman  won the 2013 Super Truck championship at the Southern New Mexico Speedway, following his clinching the season title at El Paso Speedway Park the previous night.
There was a little twist in the USRA Street Stocks, Donavon Flores was driving the 35 of Miles Widmer, as Flores blew a rear end in the heat race. In the first turn Dawson Manicki got loose and caused a huge pile up in turns 1 and 2. Jason Ziehl was involved and his night almost came to an end but at the restart he came out right when the leaders got the green. Jason did, however, go a lap down. On a subsequent yellow, Jason managed to get back on the lead lap, of course he would start in the back. Donavon Flores had worked the 35 to 4th place. Brandon Cruse found himself up on front with Paul Telles, Jr. Telles, Jr. was giving them a run for their money, but Cruse got around him. Noah Hollingshead went to the back early in the race as he was involved in the pile up. Now, he had worked back to 2nd. Unfortunately, in tech he was disqualified! His MSD box was broken! Jason Ziehl was another driver who made a strong recovery and was good and passed tech, so he  finished 2nd after Noah's getting disqualified. Brandon Cruse came home with the win in his #25!!
It was CSR Garage Hornet time! Devon Smith was leading the opening laps of the race until he got loose. Benny Pena passed him and took up the lead. Ben Ives moved to second quickly when he saw that green 13x of Pena go to the lead! Ben was catching him quickly with 2 laps to go but time ran out for Ben Ives. Benny Pena wins the CSR Garage Hornet main.
Twenty two USRA Dirt Modifieds checked in to do battle in the night's feature. In the lead early on was Royal Jones, his son Bumper was on the move to the front. Then, he got loose in turn 4. Both Jones' made contact. Royal's right side was all destroyed. Bumper Jones had broke a left front A-arm. His night came to an end. Terry Tipton was running in front but when Bumper pulled into the infield, he took Tipton with him!!  Christy Georges moved around Royal Jones on the restart. So, Christy was showing the way, now Tom Georges was on the move! He put a brand new engine in his car for El Paso, blew it up in the heat race, put the old one back in and came to second in Cruces!! Christy Georges was too fast for the rest of the field, she flew to the win, Tom Georges was 2nd, look at this, Todd Harper was 3rd!! and Royal Jones 4th.
